Luna Cameron-Parrish is a mixed media artist based in Melbourne, Australia. A practicing artist since 2004, she has developed a diverse body of work that includes paintings, sculpture, mosaics and assemblage.
Luna is an artist of the imagination rather than one who tries to capture the world around her with any sense of reality. Anything that is kitsch, funny, quirky, weird, irreverent or cheeky appeals to her.
Luna’s love of words and language is a main source of inspiration; poetry, song lyrics, stories, myths and legends are all woven together into a visual language that is rich in meaning. She enjoys expressing different moods with her work – sometimes fanciful and playful, other times cynical, brooding and introspective. From time to time a more serious side emerges; when in this mode her work is more contemplative and subdued. These pieces often consist of a more limited colour palette and tend to be materials-based rather than conceptual.
What ties her eclectic range of pieces together is her love of symmetry, pattern and allegory. Luna’s work often has many elements and layers to it, containing symbolism and metaphors to convey multiple meanings.
It’s important to Luna to be able to express different things and different sides to her personality with her art. Variety is the spice of life after all!
