Luna Cameron-Parrish is a mixed media artist based in Melbourne, Australia.
A practicing artist since 2004, they have developed a diverse body of work that includes paintings, sculpture, mosaics and assemblage.
Luna is an artist of the imagination rather than one who tries to capture the world around them with any sense of reality. Anything that is kitsch, funny, quirky, weird, irreverent or cheeky appeals.
Luna’s love of words and language is a main source of inspiration; in life and in their art. Stories, myths and legends often provide a broad concept. Specific references may then evolve from a poem, song lyrics, or a pithy quote. Elements from these are woven together with personal motifs to form a visual language that is rich in meaning.
Luna enjoys expressing different moods with their work – sometimes fanciful and playful, other times cynical, brooding and introspective. From time to time a more serious side emerges; when in this mode their work is more contemplative and subdued. These pieces often consist of a more limited colour palette and tend to be materials-based rather than conceptual.
What ties the eclectic range of pieces together is Luna’s love of symmetry, pattern and allegory. Luna’s work often has many aspects and layers to it, containing symbolism and metaphors to convey multiple meanings.
It’s important to Luna to be able to express different things and different sides to their personality with their art. Variety is the spice of life after all!
